最初听到David Gray的歌是2002年Grammy合辑——BSB蓝与黑之外我听到的第一张欧美专辑。而直到现在才发现这张合辑对我的影响是如此之大，不然我不会认识像Bob Dylan、Elton John和Michael Jackson这些老鸟以及Five For Fighting这些新音乐人。而这张专辑里Babylon的演唱者David Gray，因为如此有特色的笑声和嗓音一直被我认为也是个老大爷。直到前几天第无数次听到这首歌百听不厌的歌才点开Last.fm去查证，原来是一个中年男人而已，大喜，找到Babylon所出自的专辑听了，感觉又一宝藏出土。

David Gray来自英国曼切斯特，后来搬到了威尔士，读过利物浦大学。此张专辑绝对是他自93年以来音乐生涯的一个突破，不仅是爱尔兰历史上卖的最好的专辑，更是打破了专辑无间断霸占第一名的记录（当然重发也是其中原因），此外还赢得了民谣女歌手Joan Baez的赞誉：写词功力犹如年轻时代Bob Dylan。Babylon这首歌更是David Gray打入美国市场进入主流视野的第一次。他不仅是创作歌手，还包办吉他和键盘的演奏。仔细聆听你会惊喜的发现这张专辑个性演唱的背后搭配了很不错的器乐。歌词肤浅，乐曲再朗朗上口也只能注定其快餐歌曲的命运——这种歌就是被遗忘的；而有了歌词，一首歌就有了灵魂，即使乐曲不很出众，也会在音乐史上留下重重一笔。说James Blunt是上尉诗人？那么即使不讽刺Sting，David Gray也是一个毫不做作的吟游诗人。
